A secondary character is defined as a character that isn't focused on by the main storyline of a narrative but doesn't appear so little that they're a minor or cameo appearance. Usually a supporting character is in some way connected to the protagonist(s), and if they have a backstory, it isn't entirely independent but not entirely dependent on the protagonist(s) either. Any secondary character can be an antagonist, foil, or an ancillary character.
